What are Domestic Projects?
EWB-USA launched the Community Engineering Corps (CE Corps) with the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Water Works Association. The mission is to connect disadvantaged communities with the engineering expertise they need to meet basic infrastructure needs. By working with the Community Engineering Corps, we aim to help our local community and gain experience. Through CE Corps projects, our members are able to expand their knowledge.
What are we doing?
EWB-SDSU is in contact with a local Native American tribe, Mesa Grande, who are located in North County, San Diego. Mesa Grande is a progressive tribe who wants to develop a new plot of land to add residential housing to their tribe. We will help create accurate maps, land plans, water system plans.
Currently, we are in the first phase of our project with Mesa Grande. This involves our team researching the topography, vegetation, soil, geology, and hydrology of the land. We are using online research and plan to use aerial photomapping techniques at the reservation. All of this will help us accomplish the other phases to come. We plan to continue working with Mesa Grande for the next couple years and reach out further to other local communities.
